The last couple of days we have had a hatch of gnats going on….
Actually, I am not sure what type of insect it is but it happens every year at this time. They cover the Green Ash trees and fill the air. They cover you when you walk outside and are kind of icky. But this year it has attracted all sorts of birds…
Bluebirds
Pileated Woodpeckers
More Bluebirds…
Check out his tongue with the bugs on it!
Did I say Bluebirds…
Hordes of bluebird…
Flickers, do you see three…
Downy woodpeckers…
More flickers…

lovely bird shots
What a great post – I love woodpeckers – and I have been lucky enough to see the WPs in this post in the feather so to speak. The close up on the head of the Pileated is wonderful!

Well these lovely birds certainly know where the food is. Great shots of the Woodpeacker
You were certainly rewarded for braving the icky bugs, beautiful.
A fall feast for some!
How exciting to see so many bluebirds at one time! Love those woodpeckers, too.
Ewww, a ‘hive’ of gnats would give me the heebie jeebies!!
But your bird images once again, are outstanding!! I am sooooooo jealous of you spotting the pileated woodpecker. I would LOVE to get a chance to photograph one myself. High five.
Thank you for taking time to share your link at I’d Rather B Birdin’ this week!! Much appreciated.
Can’t say I’d want all those Gnats around but it looks like they are bringing in a wonderful array of birds. I hope they get their bellies full.
