Palling Around

Miss Emmalynn and Gunnar…

P1130241When Emmalynn woke up she had seen that it snowed and kept pestering everyone about going sledding. They were all busy getting school work and chores done for the day and they promised to take her later.  She acted like she was alright with that answer.  Soon enough we heard the door open and close and when I went to investigate I found this little girl out, playing with Gunnar…P1130246

So much for waiting!

Here she comes…

P2080303Meet Ciarra, she is one of the most friendly Icelandic ewes you’ll ever meet.

She decided she needed to go investigate the fuzzy, barking thing on the other side of the fence.

Gunnar, our Icelandic sheepdog decided to say hi too.

Brrrr! Where’s fall?

A snowy Kletta.

We awoke to more snow this morning.  Definitely feeling more and more like winter.  Brrrr!!

A Gunnar dog…

Icies with llamas.

This hen has the right idea to stay toasty during cold winter mornings.

Going for a little ride.

Thor, keeping all the little sheepies and chickens safe.

Brrrrr…. Where’s fall?

Gone to the dogs…

Vaka, Frank and Bellah waiting...

With 6 working dogs our farm is a busy, bustling place.

Frank with Gunnar and Kletta

Dugur jumping fences to get into the next paddock.

Kletta in the snow...

Frank, down.

Beautiful Bellah.

Vaka, hanging out with the heifers.

Gunnar enjoying the sunshine.

Big Dugur out patrolling...

Playful Kletta...

This past week has been an interesting one for the dogs.  We ended up taking Bellah and Dugur  into the vet for their health checks and updates on rabies, etc.    Big, tough Dugur is quite the wimp while riding in the van the 15 minutes to the vets office.  He quivers and shakes and looks quite pitiful.  Then we get to the vets office and he feels the need to pee all over everything IN the building claiming the whole building for himself!  They both looked great and Dugur weighed in at 105 lbs!  This week Vaka and Frank get the privileged of going on a little van ride.  :0)

Puppy play~

It has been a very fun week getting to know these little puppies.  I was a little nervous about having two puppies at the same time but they seem to keep each other  (all of us, really) entertained.

(Please click the pictures to enlarge them)

Gunnar and Kletta

Raphael has been re-named Gunnar.  The little kids would call him Ralphy instead of  Raphi , which I’m not too sure I care much for.  So they decided to call him Gunnar (which everyone can pronounce!)  😉

Gunnar looking in the pasture.

Kletta sitting up big.

They are too cute, wrestling around, chewing on each other, zipping here and there!

A little playing around...

Rough housing!

Crazy dogs!

Gunnar meeting the cow.

Kletta grinning!

Icelandic Sheepdogs!!

Raphi

Kletta

The past couple of days have been so much fun with puppies in the house again.  We have been happily surprised that Icelandic Sheepdogs are unlike other herding type dogs that we have had in the past.  Neither Kletta or Raphi, try to round-up the kids, bite at their heels or want to eat the cat.

Kletta and Raphi have been so gentle with the kids and any visitor we’ve had.

Which way should we go?

What's down here?

Who's walking whom?

I love how their tails curl around!

Pretty little girl...

Handsome boy...

The two together...

We’ve had a fun couple of days getting to know these two and feel they are going to fit here perfectly.  Especially when both of them decide to curl up around my feet, keeping them warm, fall asleep and snore softly.  Something kinda neat about that.

Man’s Best Friend…

Yesterday, my husband had quite the adventure.  He was supposed to head to Canada for a meeting and then was planning on picking up two puppies to bring back home.   He headed out very early and was on the road by 4 a.m.  in order to make it to his meeting on time.  He drove 2 1/2 hours to the Canadian border when he realized he had forgotten his passport in his other bag.  😦  So he had to turn around and drive back home, pick up his passport and then drive back up.  Even though he missed his meeting he was still able to meet with Auður Valsdóttir and Ralph Biggs of T.K. Icelandics and picked up the two newest members of the Braaten household.  :0)

Icelandic Sheepdogs!!

Audurs Kletta

My husband drove all evening and made it home at around 12:30 a.m.  to a household of anxious kids (and wife!)  It was instant love!  They are both so incredibly sweet and cute.  I’m not sure who is enjoying each other more~the kids with the pups or the pups with the kids?!~  My husband was exhausted but happy to bring these little guys home.    Have I ever told you how much I love this man?       ♥ ♥ ♥   :0)   ♥ ♥ ♥
