Happy :0) Birthday Beau…

I’d like to take a moment and wish a happy belated birthday to my little brother, Beau.  He is a Hot Shot on the Hungry Horse Fire Crew and out fighting wild land fires now, carefully I’d like to think anyway!   ;0)  I’m hoping this year is better than last year for Beau…

The birthday bash continues with Teigen turning 3!  I am sorry to suffer you through yet another birth story, but I find as I get older and the years pass with the addition of each new precious soul that I am forgetting some of the precious details of the most important days of my life.  I hope to preserve these here…

My pregnancy with Teigen was very stressful to say the least.  My pregnancy before ended with me giving birth 13 weeks early to a beautiful baby Hayden boy.  When we found out that we were once again pregnant I was definitely concerned that something bad would once again happen.  I had to go in weekly to the doctors office for progesterone shots that were suppose to help prevent pre-term labor problems.

I had weekly ultrasounds to determine cervical length, fluid amount and eventually weekly non stress tests.  I ended up visiting the OB department quite regularly, just to make sure everything was ok.  One morning I remember waking up at about 36 weeks and as I was laying there I felt no movement from the baby.  I laid there for a while longer, switched sides, got up moved around and still nothing.  Finally I woke Mark up in tears and had him rush me to hospital and the whole ride up the baby never moved.  I just knew the worst had happened…it took the nurses several minutes to find his heart rate and when they found it I just bawled!  I was so ready to be done.  My poor husband and doctor!

I was so hoping to have a VBAC with Teigen, but at that point I was just ready to be done and hold a healthy little boy.  My doctor had mercy on me and we planned to go ahead with a C-Section if his lungs were mature enough.  We had the amnio which had to be done twice as my fluid was so low it made it difficult to find a pocket of fluid with enough amniotic fluid in it.  I ended up hiding my face under a pillow so I couldn’t see what was going on, squeezing my poor husbands hand.  He watched the whole thing be done and threw in a couple of qick whitted comments and questions, lightening mt mood.  It wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, no real sensation in my skin and just a quick tearing/sharp sensation when it went through the uterus.  When the results came back I was very dissapointed, his lung maturity came back as very immature!  His number came in way below even the grey area of being somewhat mature.

We then had to wait two more weeks until my 38thweek.  The doctor allowed us to schedule our section on a Saturday morning, the day before Father’s Day and has been the only day that we have picked for a birth day!  And in celebration of Father’s Day, Teigen was given the middle name Markus after his daddy which has suited him perfectly!

June Birthdays…

June is a month that holds a lot of Birthdays for our family.  Last Wed. was Zayne’s, this Wed. (today) is Garrett’s, next Wed. is Teigen’s and the following Wed. is my mom’s.  Too cool huh?  When we were getting close to having Zayne, the day before his birthday I was musing how it would be really neat if he would be born on the 3rd making all their birthdays a week apart.  But our due date was not until the 21st another 3 weeks away.  So imagine my surprise when I woke up the next morning and my water broke!

Anyway…. TODAY is Garrett’s birthday.  My quick with a smile, animal loving, spark in his eye, quick witted, growing up too fast, not so little anymore little boy is eight today.  He is the one I can set on a cleaning mission and he’ll happily set to work on it and  have it done in no time!  He has the best sense of humor and is really too smart for his own good!

Eight years ago we nearly lost this little boy.  I had been contracting all the day before and things were finally getting in to a pattern later that night so we decided to go in and get checked.  My doctor was out of town and once we got to the hospital everything just petered out, which seems to be what happens to me.  I think I just labor better at home.  I was only dilated to 3 and since I was now  just having the occasional contraction that wasn’t doing too much we were sent home with some pills to help me sleep and told to come back in when things got going a little bit better.  But instead of helping me sleep the pills made me sort of wiry and made me vomit all night long.

Me and my boy...

Me and my boy...

After being up all night and not sure what to do at 6 am on the 10th we headed back up to L&D to be checked again.  I  hadn’t progressed much and we were hooked up to the monitors and waiting for the doctor on call to come by and chat with us when the baby’s heart rate disappeared. One of the nurses moved the sensor around trying to pick up his heart beat andwhen she couldn’t find it another nurse grabbed it from her and sorta laughed at her and asked if she was having problems!  When she could only find a very decelerated heart rate the room got busy and the doctor on call was paged and ran in.  It was determined that his cord had prolapsed and the doctor had to manually (ow ow ow!!!) push his head up and move the cord over, (ow ow ow!!!) which immediately brought his heart rate back up.  I was about done in.   At this point I had been awake for 30+ hours and I was just emotionally and physically tired and petrified something bad was going to happen.  I actually had to be talked out of a C-Section!  Instead pitocin was started and about 2 hours later with about 3 pushes Garrett made his arrival.  He was very purple and his poor nose was sooo mushed up against his face from arriving so fast. He was on oxygen for just a few minutes and since then we have been running to keep up with him.

I woke up and knew something wonderful was going to happen.  Now most people probably would not appreciate waking up and having the sensation of wetting your pants, but to me it meant we would be meeting the newest member of our family.  It was 3 weeks until our due date and 2 weeks until our scheduled C-section so I was truly given a special present as I was huge and miserable and just wishing I could be done with pregnant part.  That morning I was able to wake Mark up with the exciting news…

“Hey….Honey…my water just broke…” Poor guy he about fell out of bed rushing to get up!  I told him we weren’t in any hurry but maybe we should wake the kids and get them ready to take to my parents house.  We didn’t  even have anything packed yet, car seat out, or even baby clothes ready to go.  So after a while we were finally at the hospital where they ran some test to see if my water had indeed broke.  They checked fluid with litmus paper and took samples to see if the fluid would fern out on a slide under a microscope (indicating my water had really broke) which all came back…negative!  They let me walk around a little and rechecked and still, negative.  The baby was looking good so they told us to go eat some lunch and just monitor myself and to come back if anything changed.  Now I knew my water was broke because every time I stood up or wiggled just right…well I leaked!  But we decided to go to lunch and enjoy ourselves without kids, we knew it would be a while before we got to do that again.  So when we got there I just *knew* that I probably should not eat *knowing*  I was going to be in surgery later, but we were at my favorite restaurant and I had not eaten since the night before at supper and it was now after noon.

After an enjoyable (but wet) lunch we stopped back by home and picked up a couple more things for up at the hospital and headed back up where I asked if it was possible to have my amniotic fluid measured.  I had just had it measured the day before and it was measuring at 9, (toward the end of my pregnancies I tend to run low on amniotic fluid so they keep a close eye on that) which is at the lowest point of being normal and if it measured less we would know if it had broke.  When the ultrasound tech went to measure he could only find one small pocket of fluid(normally there are 4) which measured at only 1, meaning my water had to of broke.  So because I *had* eaten lunch they wanted me to wait until 8 that night before they operated.  So Mark and I just hung out.  It was pretty nice!  So at 8 pm they started all the pre-op stuff and I walked into the operating room where they gave me an epidural and I met the nurses and the anthologist.  At 8:33 p.m. little Zayne made his appearance…

Our first picture together in the operating room!

After doing a quick look over they took Zayne to the nursery to do all the stuff they do there, which I don’t really know cause I’ve always been the one to stay behind and get the special treatment, ya know stitch everything back up!   😉  Anyway this is where Mark leaves to watch over the baby and make sure everything is going to be alright with him and I’m left to talk to the anesthesiologist.  I always *hate* this part.  It takes them about a half hour and I lay there and watch the second hand and count down from 30! lol  Anyway soon enough I get rolled back into recovery and await for my hubby and the baby.

Finally I get to check him all over and give him lots of snuggles!
