THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MISSOULA HAS ISSUED A WIND CHILL WARNING… WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM SATURDAY TO 11 AM MST MONDAY.

* IMPACTS/TIMING: STRONG NORTHEAST WINDS AND DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH MIDDAY MONDAY.

* WIND CHILL VALUES: 10 TO 20 BELOW ZERO SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY… THEN 20 TO 40 BELOW SUNDAY NIGHT AND EARLY MONDAY.

* WIND SPEEDS: 10 TO 20 MPH SATURDAY NIGHT… INCREASING TO 25 TO 35 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS BY SUNDAY NIGHT.

* LOCATIONS IMPACTED INCLUDE… FLATHEAD LAKE… FLATHEAD VALLEY… MISSION VALLEY… POLSON… BUTTE… GEORGETOWN LAKE… HIGHWAY 200 GARRISON TO ELLISTON… HOMESTAKE PASS… MACDONALD PASS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WIND CHILL WARNING MEANS THE COMBINATION OF VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILL VALUES. THIS WILL RESULT IN FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA OR DEATH IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.

… SNOW ALONG THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE TONIGHT AND SATURDAY FOLLOWED BY VERY COLD TEMPERATURES AND DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS ACROSS WESTERN MONTANA THROUGH MONDAY…

.A UPPER TROUGH DROPPING OVER THE NORTHERN ROCKIES TONIGHT FOLLOWED BY PERSISTENT NORTHERLY FLOW WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING IMPACTS:

IMPACT 1: 3 TO 7 INCHES OF SNOW TONIGHT AND SATURDAY IN VALLEYS AND MOUNTAINS NEAR THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE FROM POLEBRIDGE SOUTH TO SEELEY LAKE.

IMPACT 2: DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS OF 20 TO 40 BELOW ZERO IN AREAS NEAR THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE… AND 10 TO 20 BELOW ZERO WEST OF THE HIGHWAY 93 CORRIDOR.

IMPACT 3: VERY COLD ARCTIC AIR REMAINING IN PLACE THROUGH MID WEEK.
