Fencing…

It’s been a busy week here on the farm, one week before lambing.  We have successfully moved rams across the road, fixed fence, moved ewes to the maternity ward, fixed fence, and fixed fence! LOL!    With my husband working loooong hours and now my oldest son getting a full-time job, off the farm, I am proud to say I fixed the electric, seven strand fencing  that encloses about 20 acres where the rams are right now.  Our electric fencer puts out a little over 7000 volts  and our fence was registering at 1500 volts, at best!  Ugh, this fence has been a pain and it took me two half days to get up to  6500  but it is the highest it has been in two years.  Definitely enough juice to keep the sheep in and other critters out!

Garrett and Hayden were my emergency runners and Tori was the official phone gal, who ran back and forth to plug and unplug the fencer in when I needed to fix things….

Moon Shine…

The moon rise was simply stunning last night.  I was busy fixing fence last night, without my camera and witnessed the moon just peeking out from behind the mountains.  It was one of those awe…..moments.  I had to race back down the pasture and jump in the pickup and head home for the camera and then zip back to capture these.  I was hoping to get out again tonight but it was pretty cloudy out.

Preparing for Lambing…

With some of ewes taking on the appearance of swallowing barrels, whole, we have been busying ourselves preparing for lambing…

Mark moved the sheds to the maternity pen, which will be transformed into lambing jugs.

The best fencing crew, ever.  They are replacing fencing with some hog panels so we will have easier access to both pens.

I think we managed to catch these two with artificial insemination!  (We are members of a coop that  imported semen from Iceland)

We still have a bunch of work to do, it always seems never ending but we are getting closer.   I need to recheck and clean out the vet box and lambing supplies this week and make sure I have everything we might need. Watch for lambs within the next two weeks!
