We spotted these guys while on vacation, at a stop in Oregon. They were pretty amusing to watch while the scritched and scratched through the leaves looking for little seeds. I believe they are Spotted TowheePipilo maculatus (please correct me if I am wrong 🙂 ). Thanks for the help on ID’ing the little hummingbird last week!
We have the Eastern Towhee in Virginia. They are shy, but I have seen them in the brushy areas of our farm. Wish they would come to the feeder, but they seem to prefer, as in the pictures of this post, scratching on the ground for insects and seeds.

Pretty shots of the Towhee! They are pretty birds.
Lovely shots- and the birds are so pretty.

PS: sorry for slow reply – I’ve been out of internet range in Tasmania
Great shots! Yes, the Spotted Towhee has white spots on the wings as well as white wing bars and the Eastern Towhee does not.
