Rough water…

We’ve been following the coast all day and then as soon as the sun starts going down, we can’t find beach access. ¬†I thought for sure we were going to miss the sun setting on the ocean. ¬†At the last-minute, we were able to find access and witnessed this beautiful scene!

Woodpecker1

The active little Downy Woodpecker is a familiar sight at backyard feeders and in parks and woodlots, where it joins flocks of chickadees and nuthatches, barely outsizing them. An often acrobatic forager, this black-and-white woodpecker is at home on tiny branches or balancing on slender plant galls, sycamore seed balls, and suet feeders. Downies and their larger lookalike, the Hairy Woodpecker, are one of the first identification challenges that beginning bird watchers master. ¬†Read more HERE…

Grizzly…

We are not only privileged enough to  live in one of the most beautiful places on Earth, but to also have a variety of wildlife around.

BeFunky_77-IMG_8968

We were fortunate enough to watch this sow grizzly with her cub for about 4 hours during one of our trips to Glacier Park this summer.  The interaction between this mama and her baby were so amazing.

BeFunky_Instant_6

Here, mama and baby were playing  and then headed to the water to cool off.

Lucky enough for the whole crew that mama and baby bear where quite a distance away and also got to enjoy the view…

from the roof of the van.  Unlike these guys who probably wanted to actually experience a mauling.

Sometimes people just aren’t too bright. ¬†I have seen what a hungry black bear has done to my sheep flock in one night which is whole ‘nother post. ¬† But this is a big mama, G.R.I.Z.Z.L.Y, with a cub, no-less! ¬† ¬†They are a marvelous, but oh-so powerful.

Delight…

While in South Dakota, we were blessed to watch the sun go down over the Badlands.  It was simply amazingly beautiful and delightful.

Just for fun…

And something else that is noteworthy, yesterday a ewe and myself butted heads, literally. ¬†We were trying to move her out of the AI pen to her new abode and tried grabbing for her right when she tried jumping around me. ¬†The result was spending most of yesterday at the doctors office and then over to the hospital for a CT scan, and then back to the doctors. ¬†My CT scan came back normal, but I flunked the testing they did to right side of my body, including vision in my right eye, numbness and tingling on the right side of my face and couldn’t taste the Sweet Tarts¬†they gave me. ¬†Thankfully there were no fractures to my jaw either. ¬†When the ewe jumped, she hit me under my chin and toward the right resulting in a sore jaw that won’t open very far.

Today my headache is feeling much better and my jaw is feeling better. ¬†I feel a bit more dizzy and foggy headed though. ¬†I had a follow-up at the doctor’s office and she really thinks I have a¬†concussion. ¬† She thinks things will slowly get better over the next couple of weeks. ¬†She also has grounded me from the sheep pen for a while as she doesn’t want me to¬†re-injure¬†my head. ¬†Hmm, should be interesting!

Northern Flickers are large, brown woodpeckers with a gentle expression and handsome black-scalloped plumage. On walks, don‚Äôt be surprised if you scare one up from the ground. It‚Äôs not where you‚Äôd expect to find a woodpecker, but flickers eat mainly ants and beetles, digging for them with their unusual, slightly curved bill. When they fly you‚Äôll see a flash of color in the wings ‚Äď yellow if you‚Äôre in the East, red if you‚Äôre in the West ‚Äď and a bright white flash on the rump. ¬†More info HERE.
