Dog Days…

Lambs and Dugur

Several weeks ago we turned rams and ewes that were not bred out to pasture across the road.  Then this last Sunday  it was the mommas turns to be out on to pasture.  We turned them out on a pasture that is close to house so we keep close tabs on them.  This pasture is needing to be restored and soon we will be drilling in some sainfoin with orchard grass.  So our first order of business was to turn the ewes out and let them have at it.  The ewes and lambs are so happy and it is just so neat to see them out on grass!    But the sheep weren’t the only ones happy to be out…

Dugur and Vakka

Vakka is growing too!  She keeps busy watching over the rams.  Until she decides to not treat the sheep like other puppies she’ll be watching the boys who keep her line.  I forgot how much work puppies are!

Watching…

Soon we will be turning them out on a different segment of pasture and hopefully (if it ever stops raining!) getting the tractor going and seeding that sainfoin so it can be used this fall.

Our Shooting Sports Season…

Another fun-filled season of 4-H shooting sports ended months ago but the fun continues here as Sawyer practices for Nationals in San Antonio, Texas.  He placed high enough at the state competition to represent Montana in both air pistol and small bore pistol.  He had to choose between the two disciplines and has decided to go with air pistol and hopefully place high enough next year to go to Nationals again in small bore.  He leaves in just 3 1/2 weeks and is getting very excited!

All of the kids did very well this year and had bunches of fun.  4-H Shooting Sports is such a great program for kids; they learn about gun and bow safety, they have lots of practices with great coaches to give them confidence in their disciplines, they are able to compete against others and learn how to deal with all that comes with competitions, they have made new friends and get to travel to new places and *can* even pay your way to higher education.  One of the girls that shoots in air pistol with Sawyer has made the Junior Olympic team and is shooting in Europe this year as well as receiving a full ride scholarship to college!

Meeting Emma…

It is so hard to believe that a whole year has already passed us by and Emma is now a year old.  It is just amazing how quickly it passes!  Most of these pictures I have not shared before, it is with mixed emotions that I share them now.  The first couple of weeks after Emma’s birth is such a blur due to the complications that arose right after her birth, leaving me in surgery for eight hours and weeks to recover.

Looking back to this time we are most thankful for:

  • The prayers of our friends and family through months of bed rest through today.   🙂
  • Wonder children (and husband) who were just so helpful and thoughtful.
  • Pastor Chris and Peggy Sue visiting us right before surgery to pray with us.
  • The prayers and peace that I felt during surgery.
  • Wonderful doctors and nurses.
  • A healthy and beautiful baby GIRL!
  • The Rickel Family for visiting us and praying with us at the hospital.
  • Our parents and family.
  • Our wonderful church family that pampered us for many weeks after coming home from the hospital.
  • God’s sovereignty over it all.
Emma was (and still is) a pretty easy going baby.  She was rarely fussy and one of my easiest babies, it was God giving me what I really needed at that time.  We all have enjoyed her so much this past year, she makes the crankiest of us smile and laugh!
