Honkers flying over...

Anticipation of spring lambs!

Fallish…

It’s beginning to feel downright fallish around here~maybe even a bit winterly as the longer days and cooler weather settle upon us.  The leaves have long been gone and the trees have been showing their structure for awhile, but the larch are just now starting to go to sleep…

Here are some other things we have been enjoying this fall…

Crab Apples

Fall Flowers

Strawberries

Golden Leaves

I hope you all have enjoyable autumn!

Really Ramming with Fall Shearing…

We held our annual fall shearing yesterday. The weather cooperated and it was beautiful ~a great day to get it done.

Here is a slideshow showing Jason shearing a ewe lamb…

Mark even tried has hand at shearing…

One of the dangers of shearing is that after a sheep or in this case, a ram has been shorn, the other rams do not recognize him and they will fight for dominance.

The two head smashers had to be separated as Sullivan took a pretty good cut to the head and Icelandic rams have been known to fight till the death.

When it was all said and done we ended up having quite a few laughs throughout the day, Mark tried his hand at shearing and we ended up with some beautiful fleeces!

Thanks again Jason!

Hucks…

Earlier this year we were able to sneak away to try to find some huckleberries.  We had no idea if they would even be ready or if they were done for the season when went, we figured that even if we couldn’t find any we at least would be spending the day together and enjoy a nice picnic lunch.   When we first got there it looked as if we were too late as all the bushes had been stripped.  We continued to hike around a bit and found…

Huckleberry bushes with huckleberries!
