Gardening…

Well we haven’t gotten very far on the garden yet as we have been having some serious frosts still but on Mother’s Day the boys planted over 200 onion bulbs and Mark was able to plant the apple and plum trees, along with the gooseberry bushes!

The boys had a great strategy for planting onions, Sawyer would poke a hole in the ground with an old broom stick handle and wiggle it back and forth just a bit, making it just big enough for the onion bulbs to fall easily to the bottom when Garrett dropped one in.  They would then go back and pack them in. Pretty easy!

It was a fairly productive afternoon and we never got rained on, it was actually pretty warm!  We’ll be putting some peas, spinach, asparagus, and rhubarb out today and hopefully we can get our potatoes, radishes and few others out this weekend.

The bees seem to have settled in their new home quite nicely and were really active on Sunday too!

Last years bunch of bees was taken over by a group of angry wasps, but what a difference they made in our garden while they were around!  We are definitely looking forward to having honey from our own bees eventually as we go through at least a half gallon of it per month and also having all the perk benefits of bees in our garden!
