Our mouflon mommy, Esja lambed last night at around 3 a.m. and gave birth to two beautiful ram lambs! She had no complications and I could have just stayed in bed, ;D but what fun would that have been? I really *do* love playing midwife to a flock of sheep, even if they don’t need me there. It never ceases to amaze me how at that moment of birth, when they take their first breath and wiggle to life, how precarious it truly is.

This beautiful little guy was first, a moorit (brown) mouflon-7 lbs 10 oz.
Lambs are vigorous at birth, a trait that has been shown to carry through in crossbreeding programs. The first lamb born will commonly be up and nursing before the twin arrives. Experienced mothers can have a lamb nursing even before it has gotten to its feet.

Following was this black spotted mouflon, weighing in at 9lbs even!

Our first ever mouflons born into our flock!
