Looky, Looky….

Look what I found in the barn this morning…
Grizel's black gray ram lamb...

Grizel's black gray ram lamb...

What a cutie!  He weighed in at 8lbs. 15oz. and has huge horn buds!  Right now he is solid black with sugar lips and white hairs in his ears and under his tail.  Gray Icelandics have a way of changing color as they grow.  As this little guys thel (undercoat)  and tog (outercout) grow out it will be white underneath mixing with the black.  He could look more like his mother, or not!  There are many different shades of gray pattern.
Grizel started labor last night at about 9, having a contraction here and there,  so Sawyer and I went back and forth to the barn all night until 4 am.  We kept thinking she would get with it but really didn’t do too much other than look uncomfortable.  Finally after nodding off a few times too many we headed back to the house to get some sleep, knowing Mark would check her at about 5:30.  When he left for work at 7:30 she still wasn’t doing much, so sometime between 7:30 and 9:30 she lambed.  When I got up there he was already cleaned up, standing and had nursed.  When I picked him up to find out what gender he was he was still pretty wet, so he couldn’t have been too old!  It will be fun to see this guy grow and see what color he morphs into!
