Returning from the dead…

Well, we girls our crossing our fingers that maybe…just maybe…this flu thing is over and that possibly we have escaped this time through.  Every one seems to be on the mend and we are busy re-disinfecting our house today.  We are also keeping an eye on a ewe who looks close to lambing!  Can I just say everyone is just so excited to have little lambs again.  Most of the ewes are just starting to bag up and look to be a couple weeks out yet.  But this one ewe is completely bagged up and looking like she is about to pop, so we’ll see!  I’ve been spending more time out with them to tame them down a little so if they are in need of assistance during lambing they aren’t completely stressed by my presence.  Icelandic sheep are so funny…they really have individual personalities and are quite wary of  everyone and everything.  It’s been nice to be outside and not completely freeze and even soak up a little sunshine.  The ground is thawing out and there is even mud to sink our feet into!  Makes a person ready to play in the garden. 😛
Here’s a picture from last year of our smallest lamb born, just 3 1/2 lbs, born to a yearling ewe.  She needed a little help getting going the first time nursing, but after that she was full of spunk and thrived!
