Duck, Duck, Goose…

Duck, duck, goose, and duck!  When we went to the farm store to buy Mark a birthday present we came back with a couple extra critters.  It’s always a bad idea to take kids into the farm store when spring is here.  Naughty kids!  😉

And Another!

And Another!

Aren't they so cute!

Aren't they so cute!

Aren't they even cuter?

Isn't this pair even cuter?

We bought ducks last year and they imprinted on Garrett and followed him all over the place, it was too funny watching Garrett flap his arms and quack and see the ducklings line up behind him and waddle right along.   And then we slowly lost them one by one to a fox.  So we thought this year we might have better luck with them now that we have a big snugly, lick ya to death    err um ferocious dog that will protect them!  The runner ducks are pretty funny to watch, they as their name implies, run instead of waddle and stand  more upright then other ducks.  And the Toulouse Geese are suppose to be pretty friendly and are great watch dogs too.   They have a reputation for honking loudly at intruders thus putting everything else on watch too.  Right now they are just too cute and very messy!

Boys and Business…

Did you know Garrett and Hayden are in business together?   They have taken it very seriously and are becoming very hard and diligent workers.  They have plans to save up and buy walkie talkies with all their hard earned money.  It’s so cute to listen to 5 and 7 year-olds discuss business, and the divvying up of chores amongst themselves!

They have even designed their own personal label!

Hayden and Garrett's Farmer Boys Eggs...

They are responsible for feeding, watering, and cleaning up after the chickens.  They collect eggs throughout the day and clean and store them.  They (dad and mom) even ordered another dozen hens on Monday to add to their flock.  Their hens are slowly creeping back up on their egg production, thankfully Papa Doug has a surplus that the boys have been greatfully taking off his hands.  Just don’t ask them who’s supporting the feed bill.  😉  What more could little boys want?

Happy Birthday…

I would like to take a moment and wish my very bestest  friend in the whole entire world a very happy birthday!

Cow kisses…

Well Royal isn’t quite a cow, but I didn’t think steer kisses sounded as good!   Anyway Royal is Sawyer’s fair steer and is a very friendly critter, always looking for scratches and treats.  He ought to prove to be quite an experience for Sawyer.  Since entering 4-H Sawyer has only taken hogs to the fair and this year he thought he could handle the extra challenge and extra cost of a steer.  He’s quickly finding out that his steer will require a lot more one-on-one than his pig and that he has to be able to move fast, cause when a steer steps on your foot it leaves a much larger bruise!  Royal ought to be bomb proof (hopefully)by fair with all the activity going on up at the barn, right now Dugur sleeps just outside his stall in the barn, the kids are constantly running back and forth to check for lambs and can tend to be noisey and the goats, sheep and roosters just add to the chorus of noise up there.   Our gate at the moment is part of a livestock panel (it’s the only thing tall enough to keep the goats out) that is floppy and sproingy and Royal isn’t bothered by any of it.  So hopefully no run-away steers at the fair!  Do you remember the old Fischer Price barns that when the door opened it mooed?  He sounds JUST like that, it’s too funny.  Anyway here’s a picture Sawyer took the other day of Royal…

Week three of the stomach flu…

Well the good news is there doesn’t look to be a week three!  I think it is definitely safe to say that the girls and I will not get it as it’s been a week since some one (other than Teigen) has thrown up!  I feel like Abe below, giving raspberries to whole situation… hehe.  I think Teigen is feeling a lot better too, he’s back to his feisty little self.  No naps, no snuggling,  just go-go-go.  It’s good to be back to normal…what ever that is?

Spring’s First Day…

It has truly been a beautiful spring day!  This morning as I went to go feed the sheep a wonderful song spread over the pasture to announce spring in full force.  It caused me to stop and listen for a minute and caused a great smile to spread across my face as the meadowlark sung his cheerful song!  You can listen to it here.  It reached a balmy 52 degrees here and we all have been enjoying it.

I believe I have made it through the stomach flu outbreak! Yeah!! Poor Teigen though, he is still sick…he has been ill now for over a week with vomiting and terrible diarrhea.  So yesterday I decided to take him into Urgent Care.  After their assessment they decided to do some blood work and since they were all ready poking him they started an I.V. as they thought he looked a little dehydrated.  8-(  He was so brave and didn’t hardly even move or complain, which if you know Teigen is a miracle in it’s self!  It was harder for him to hold still the hour it took to get the fluids in him.  He was so proud to come home and tell Daddy about the poke he got and the hose that went into his arm that filled him up with water!   They also checked his urine to rule out any infection there and sent me home with a poo collecting kit to um…collect poo. Oooh ugh!  They want to check for rotovirus since Bozemen had an outbreak a little while ago.  Yuck!  Anyway, he has not thrown up now for over 36 hours and is napping pretty good right now(which is unusual for him) so hopefully he will soon be feeling better.
